Gladiator Technologies Announces New G50Z MEMS Gyro

Low Noise, Excellent In-Run Bias, Bias Over Temperature and Low G-Sensitivity Are Key Features
May 8, 2008 – Gladiator Technologies announced today the production launch of the all new G50Z MEMS Gyro. This high performance MEMS angular rate sensors offers users an ultra low power and small size MEMS gyro with industry-leading bias in-run and bias over temperature as well as low g-sensitivity and low noise. The unit is designed to commercial aerospace standards and meets typical stabilization and other aerospace requirements. The unit offers several technical and cost advantages including:

  • VSG Compatible Signal (-200 model)
  • Excellent Bias and Bias Over Temperature 0.3°/sec 2σ
  • G-Sensitivity ≤0.005°/sec/g Typical
  • Axis Alignment <4mrad typical
  • Low Noise 0.014°/sec/√Hz Typical*
  • Low Power <50 mA Typical
  • Light Weight <30 grams
  • Low Voltage +5V (single sided power)
  • Bandwidth 50 Hz
  • Internal Temperature Sensor & Self-Test
  • Export Classification ECCN7A994

* Noise figure is for ±20°/sec rate range

Designed for commercial applications, the G50Z is ideal for stabilization and other applications.

Gladiator's CEO, Mark Chamberlain, commented, "The all new G50Z leverages several lessons learned from the previous generation model, the G50 Gyro. We have completely redesigned the G50Z which now offers several improvements in performance. In addition, our six sigma and lean manufacturing efforts have come to fruition and this has enabled us to pass along these cost savings to our customers."

Gladiator's production standards utilize lean manufacturing and six sigma techniques and employ fully automated temperature testing and calibration equipment throughout production. Gladiator is pursuing ISO9001/AS9100 certification which is expected this Summer.

Gladiator's CTO, Rand Hulsing, who has 66 patents in MEMS inertial technologies commented, "The G50Z utilizes a new sensing element and other design features that enable this low power gyro to have both low noise and excellent bias over temperature performance for temperature ranges typically associated with many airborne systems and other demanding environments. In comparison to many other gyros the bias performance and low g-sensitivity of the device also enable applications with high input vibrations coupled with a wide temperature range."

The G50Z MEMS Gyro is in full production and small quantity orders are typically fulfilled off the shelf. The export commodity classification is U.S. Department of Commerce category ECCN7A994. The unit comes with a mating connector and mating pins.
