Gladiator Technologies Announces New Low Cost High Performance A30 MEMS Accelerometer

Jan 27, 2009 – Gladiator Technologies announced today the availability of the all new A30 MEMS Accelerometer, which has been in production since fall 2008. This high performance MEMS accelerometer offers users a small size MEMS accelerometer with industry-leading bias in-run and bias over temperature performance as well as low power and light weight. The unit is designed to commercial aerospace standards and meets typical stabilization and other commercial aerospace requirements. The unit offers several technical and cost advantages including:

  • Excellent Bias ≤ 1mg
  • Bias Repeatability ≤ 2.5mg
  • Axis Alignment 15mrad
  • Low Power 5 ma Typical
  • Light Weight 10 grams
  • Low Voltage +5V (single sided power)
  • Bandwidth 40Hz / 100Hz
  • Voltage Output
  • Reference Voltage
  • Internal Temperature Sensor
  • Self Test
  • Shock Resistant 500g
  • Long Life
  • Export Classification ECCN7A994 pending

Designed for commercial applications, the A30 is a low cost "ready-to-use" MEMS accelerometer.

Gladiator's CEO, Mark Chamberlain, commented, "The all new A30 is our first model of high performance MEMS accelerometers. Our design team's decades of experience in designing high performance MEMS inertial sensors has been the enabler in optimizing the performance of the A30 accelerometer. Also, our six sigma and lean manufacturing efforts have come to fruition and this has enabled us to pass along these cost savings to our customers with a starting price of less than $500 each for small quantities of this ready-to-use MEMS accelerometer. This product will be followed by a higher performance model, the A35, which features lower noise, improved bias and more g range options."

Gladiator's production standards utilize lean manufacturing and six sigma techniques and employ fully automated temperature testing and calibration equipment throughout production. Gladiator's quality system is certified to ISO9001/AS9100.

Gladiator's CTO, Rand Hulsing, who has 66 patents in MEMS inertial technologies commented, "The A30's silicon MEMS utilizes several design features enabling both good in-run bias and bias over temperature performance for temperature ranges typically associated with commercial airborne systems and other demanding environments. It is the first of several models in development and will be followed by the higher performance A35 accelerometer currently in development and near production release. As in all our products, advanced silicon MEMS technology is employed to offer our users low power, light weight and an excellent performance versus price ratio sensors and systems in an easy ready-to-use package."

The A30 Accelerometer is in full production and small quantity orders are typically fulfilled off the shelf. The export commodity classification is currently self-classifed as ECCN7A994 with formal classification as ECCN7A994 expected from the U.S. Department of Commerce early this year. The unit comes with a mating connector and mating pins.
